Back to the Future: Two Electric Cars Hit Market this Fall
10.9.10: Electric cars, we hardly knew ye, but we’re ready for another introduction.
This November, almost a decade after General Motors officially banished the EV1 electric car program amid outcry from devoted lessees, Chevy reboots and makes amends with the Volt–a four door compact with 40 miles of emissions free driving capacity per charge and a range extending gas engine.
The Volt isn’t the only diode debutant hitting the street this fall, however. Nissan’s Leaf is fully electric and runs for 100 miles on one charge. We speak with Stephen Marlin of General Motors and Justin Hyde of car blog Jalopnik.com about the driving experience, “range anxiety” and more.
